Is Islam the Problem?

Is Islam the reason the middle east is such a cesspool of uneducated and backwards, ignorant cultures?

I find it strangely familiar.   When Europe was ruled by Christian clerics, it was a period we now refer to as the “Dark Ages”.

When Europe emerged from the dark ages, southern Europe, still ruled by the church, jailed scientists and squelched knowledge and development, leaving northern Europe to become the centers of science and modern civilized cultures.

first of all, there is no country in the middle east that is using the Islamic rule. you can go back and read history and see how the middle east was when Islam was in control. uneducated culture just because middle east is part of the third world with no enough resources. Islam has nothing to do with that because there is no country in the middle east that apply Islam rules and regulations.

Before Islam the middle east was the center of knowledge. The Arabs and Persians gave us Algebra, modern astronomy, and lots of other incredible advancements in our understanding of the universe. That all died when Islam took over, just as such advancement died in Europe when the Catholic church gained control. And I agree that there are no nations really under the control of ANY religion. There are free nations, where people are free to practice any religion, and there are countries ruled by whatever a dictator chooses to define his rules by. In the middle east, those dictators claim Islam, and the practitioners of Islam accept it and do not revolt. We have seen a few examples in the last couple of months to the contrary, but where are the Muslim clerics opposing the terrorists in Gaza? There are hardly any even willing to speak up about 9-11!
